Intro to the Performance Practice
Feb 11, 2021
Why We Started with Leadership and Culture
The Performance Practice was formerly known as the Performance Imperative Organizational Self-Assessment, or PIOSA. The new name makes it clear that the Performance Practice is much more than a self-assessment-- and is much easier to say! The leadership team at Southview Community Church started their journey to High Performance with Pillars 1 (courageous, adaptive executive and board leadership) and 5 (a culture of learning) from the Performance Practice. Pastor William Attaway explains why they chose to start there. William Attaway, Southview Community Church
Leap into Leadership (and Bankers in Trenchcoats)
In 2008, Susan Karas was the new chairperson of the Lawrence School board of directors. She tells the story of how the financial crisis and a complicated lending situation put the school at risk, and how leadership and tough negotiations with the bank got them back on their feet.
Three Lessons About Leading Through Crisis
Susan Karas shares her top three lessons for leading through crisis, learned through personal experience. As the new chair of the Lawrence School board of directors during the 2008 financial crisis, Susan learned that leaders need to: 1) surround themselves with smart people
2) learn through the crisis
3) have a break-the-glass plan

Is This Making A Difference?
Cynthia Figueroa, President/CEO of Congreso de Latinos Unidos
It isn't just about types of programs or how many people we are reaching. It's about how we know whether we're making a difference in people's lives. One community member pushed Cynthia Figueroa formerly of Congreso de Latinos Unidos to really focus on that question - and the organization is better for it.
Embody the Mission
Sam Cobbs, CEO, First Place for Youth
At First Place for Youth, CEO Sam Cobbs and his staff refer to the young people they work with as “our kids”. That means the organization holds themselves accountable just like parents do — wanting their “children” to be well taken care of and give back to their community.
