Mickey Levitan has an unusual combination of leadership and entrepreneurial experiences in the nonprofit, government, and business sectors where his consistent focus has been building high performing teams that make things better. Most recently, he has been a Visiting Fellow at the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, doing research and development on a program that helps nonprofits surmount common barriers to extending the reach and impact of successful programs, while teaching, facilitating organizational strengthening at the school, advising nonprofit, and getting into other sorts of trouble. Prior to joining the LFSOP, Mickey founded and served as CEO of an educational technology company undertaking a major system change in the way digital course materials are used in higher education.

Mickey’s early career was spent with Peace Corps and Save the Children in Africa and Asia, doing hands-on community development that provided a visceral understanding of the challenges facing social entrepreneurs. Returning from overseas, Mickey served as a White House Fellow, learning about the upper workings of government and how to navigate the challenges of cross-sectorial collaboration. In subsequent roles in the corporate world with Cummins, Apple and Emmis Communications, Mickey led organizational change efforts to build world class workforces, organizations and workplaces, recognized in numerous “Best Places to Work” awards. As a nonprofit board member, leader, and advisor, Mickey has provided coaching and support to help leadership teams enhance focus, effectiveness and impact.

Mickey received his Bachelor of Arts with high distinction from Dartmouth College. He attended Stanford University and earned an MBA from the Graduate School of Business, an MA from the Stanford Food Research Institute and was selected by his MBA classmates as the Arbuckle Award winner for outstanding contribution. In addition to speaking a wee bit of English, Mickey has gained fluency in four other languages: French, Thai, Bengali, and Wolof.
