Biography

Jim Kubacki has enjoyed a 40 year career in education. He is currently serving in his 11th year as President of St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio. Jim brought the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB) to St. Edward, now the largest IB Programme in Ohio. Jim led a movement to expand Cleveland vouchers to cities that border Cleveland. The school was named a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence twice under Jim’s leadership and the School recently completed a $24.5 million capital campaign that included a new Center for Innovation and a recently opened Commons.

Jim began his career at the Middlesex School in Concord, Massachusetts followed by two stints as a college football coach at Harvard and Fordham Universities. From Harvard, Jim worked in the Office of Admission at Princeton University, becoming Associate Dean.

Jim returned to secondary education, and served as Principal at St. Edward for five years in the 1990s. Jim also had a nine year tenure as President of Eastside Catholic High School (now Eastside Catholic School) in Sammamish, Washington that included the design and completion of an $88 million, 160,000 sq. foot permanent campus for the School and the addition of a 240 student middle school. Jim returned to Cleveland in 2010 to serve as President of St. Ed’s.

Jim was raised in Westlake and is a graduate of St. Ignatius High School. He received his B.A in History from Harvard University in 1977 and a MS degree in Counseling from the Fordham University Graduate School of Education in 1990. Jim was inducted into the Harvard Athletic Hall of Fame and was a Kingenstein Fellow at Columbia Teachers College.

Jim and his wife Amy currently reside in Westlake, Ohio and have three grown children. Amy is the VP of Development at Magnificat High School.
