Biography

A lifelong resident of Greater Cleveland, Denise San Antonio Zeman served as President and CEO of the Saint Luke’s Foundation of Cleveland, Ohio from 2000-2014. With assets of over $175 Million and program strategies in Healthy People, Strong Communities and Resilient Families, the Foundation supports an outcomes-focused approach to increase health equity and build community capacity to address the complex, changing needs of Greater Cleveland’s vulnerable populations. With over 30 years of experience, research and practice, Ms. San Antonio Zeman is a strong voice for nonprofit and philanthropic collaboration. She is deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of nonprofit and philanthropic leaders, and has a passion for fostering a culture of learning. She encourages community organizations to take a rigorous approach to framing their approaches around what has been demonstrated to move the needle in their work. Her professional career has spanned healthcare, human services and community relations. Immediately prior to joining the Foundation, Ms. San Antonio Zeman was a senior executive for the Meridia Health System (now part of the Cleveland Clinic Health System) where she was responsible for overseeing the successful turnaround of one of its regional hospitals. Her commitment to serving the needs of the underserved is demonstrated by active volunteer engagement with numerous community, civic and educational organizations. Ms. Zeman completed a B.A. at Ursuline College; M.A. at John Carroll University; additional post graduate coursework at Kent State University; and the Executive Program in Philanthropy at Stanford University. She also holds a Professional Chef’s Certificate from the Loretta Paganini School of Cooking, and a certificate in Regional Italian Cooking from the Simili Sisters School in Bologna, Italy. She enjoys travel, cooking and reading, and maintains a commitment to the practices of yoga and pilates.
